TRUVY began with Dolly as Truvy Jones in Steel Magnolias—hair piled high, rhinestone earrings, and that unmistakable combination of humor, warmth, and confidence.
But somewhere along the way, the painting became less about a character in a movie and more about the woman herself.
Dolly seemed to understand something about being fully yourself. She could be funny without becoming a joke. Glamorous without apology. Generous without needing us to know every time she was generous.
I painted the geometry, the rollers, the lipstick and the sparkle.
What I kept thinking about was everything underneath.
Maybe that's what stayed with so many of us.
She showed us what it could look like to become completely yourself—and then use what you had built to make life a little better for somebody else.
The Story Behind the Painting
TRUVY was painted as a tribute to Dolly Parton following her death in 2026. It was inspired by her portrayal of Truvy Jones in Steel Magnolias, but the painting—and the story that followed it—became a reflection on generosity, authenticity, and what one person can leave behind.
